Is your wallet feeling lighter this January after all your holiday shopping? Make your New Year’s resolution of adding to your bank account as easy as one, two, three, with these four tips.
- Pack your lunch for work. This may sound obvious, but you will save $5-$10 a day when bringing your lunch instead of eating out. It will also help you avoid eating food that is not good for you.
- Sell your excess items instead of tossing it. Rather than throwing away unwanted clothing, electronics, and furniture, try posting them on Craigslist, OfferUp, or LetGo. With a quick snap of a picture, you can earn money for the items you were going to toss. For old cellphones, try reaching out to your provider to see if they have a buyback program.
- Make home improvements that save you money.Instead of redoing your kitchen or backyard this year, spring to buy some energy-saving appliances that will eventually pay you back. Look into buying or renting solar panels. You may pay more now, but will save money in the long run.
- Eat what’s in season. Fruits and vegetables that are not in season see price hikes due to low supply. From a cost perspective, it is better to choose in-season produce.
