Whether you want to have a weekend getaway or host a Memorial Day party, we have some suggestions on fun and inexpensive Memorial Day activities.
Attend a local event. Check your local newspaper, Facebook events page or local tourism website for fun events nearby. Whether it is a carnival, street fair or parade, these local events are typically complementary or have a low cost to attend.
Host a potluck party. With Memorial Day comes the beginning of BBQ and beach season. Consider having a picnic on the beach or at a local park or host a backyard BBQ. But, make it a potluck. Have your friends and family bring their own food and drinks to help you save money.
Get one with nature. Gather your camping gear and head outdoors for a night or two. This is a great low cost way to kick off the summer. If you can’t make it to an actual campsite, try camping in your backyard. Or just enjoy being outside by going for a hike or bike ride.
Have a staycation. Get to know your town a little better and uncover some hidden gems. Sit back, relax and enjoy the three-day weekend.
Honor and remember the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Attend a parade; decorate your home with flags; visit a museum; or buy a poppy to support veterans. And remember to take a moment to pause in national unity at 3pm on Memorial Day for the National Moment of Remembrance.
